Not too much happening

Not a whole lot has been happening lately while we wait for the floors to dry out. Though the drainfield is finally finished. We also bought a dining set (see picture, but I chose to get the matching arm chairs instead of the leather ones). Friends from church who own several furniture stores (Bassett), were able to get us an incredible deal. We were going to buy the floor model here (it just has a few scratches, and was marked down CONSIDERABLY), but because this is a line they are discontinuing, he was able to get us a brand new set for nearly the same price. We ordered 8 chairs, but I think we'll get 2 more, since the table seats 10. This weekend we have to go in and pick out the fabric for the seats. It was a big purchase for us, but we figured it would be the most used piece of furniture in the house for all of the get togethers we want to have. So bring on the games! We'll be ready!

OOOH! It's gorgeous! I love the dark color. BEAUTIFUL! You're waiting for the floors to dry out? Why were they wet? Did I miss a post?

Sarah--
When they install drywall or paint the inside of a new house, it adds a lot of moisture to the house, which gets absorbed in the floors. So even though our subfloor hardly got any rain on them, they are still too "wet" to install the wood floors. I guess they are almost dry enough. If the wood is drier than the subfloors, the wood will cup and look really bad. My brother is a perfectionist (sound familiar), so the moisture readings have to be just right before he'll install the flooring. Glad you like our dining set. Can't wait to have you guys over!!

Beautiful dining set! Fabric seats?.... while picking out your fabric think: children. Think, grape juice, spaghetti sauce, noodles and smooshed beans. Think crayons, markers and finger paint.
I really need to come over and see all this progress!

I was thinking microfiber if I can--it's much easier to clean than regular fabric :) What color hides all those foods, maybe a chocolate brown? But then we wouldn't have the contrast with the dark wood. We'll have to have wood seats for the counter height bar stools at the island--that's where we'll do all the messy art projects :)

When we were growing up, my Grandma would put shower caps on all their bar stools when we were over for dinner. The kitchen bar was the "kids table." Not that shower caps would fit in your situation - but maybe you can come up with out some sort of cover for your chairs if you want more freedom with your color choice :)

you could alway buy some slip covers for the short term and that could be the kids chairs or in Lukes case his booster is on a fold up wood chair :)

um and are you FORGETTING something :)

Well, a pattern usually helps a lot to hide a spot. We kept Truman in his high chair and away from the table for as long as we could, but he got to be pretty insistant that he sit at the big table with the rest of us. So...we moved him to a booster (with a buckle) and the booster is attached / buckled to the chair as well. He's still a mess. He likes to chuck things and they still land in various unwanted places. It's a struggle. Anna just inhales her food and leaves little mess, but she still drops things from time to time. I really like the wood seats we have because they wipe up so well. When Truman took to one with his crayon and then again with a stray marker, I was really glad we had them. Still, if cloth is the way you want to go, perhaps a fabric with a bit of a grain to it and a pattern would be a thought.

PS -- our couch is dark, brown leather -- that wipes well, too and is quite sturdy.

Good advice ladies. I went with a silvery beige microfiber for the chairs, and plan to put dish towels over them when we have kids sitting on them :) Marty's got a bony butt so that's why we got cushioned seats. You all will have to come over when we get them and tell me what you think.
